S.S. AMERICA
A Diver's Vision of the Past

The Great Lakes Shipwreck Preservation Society proudly presents the most complete documentation ever published on the shipwreck SS America.  The book SS America-A Diver's Vision of the Past is the product of three years of underwater surveys and sketching, bundled with most currently existing documentation available on the SS America before it sank.  The author Steve Daniel spent hours and hours underwater sketching the architectural intricacies of the shipwreck -- filling in details about its structure from the eroding clues.  Iterating each drawing many times from the underwater sketches to the final above-water drawings, Steve was able to reconstruct the image of what it was like to walk through this historic ship.  The book is loaded with room sketches, builder's deck plans, historic photographs, the history, and a guided tour of the shipwreck.  The history was written by Thom Holden, noted Great Lakes author and Director of the Lake Superior Visitor's Center in Duluth, Minnesota.  This is the first book published by GLSPS and the proceeds go toward preserving this underwater museum.  To learn more or order the book click the link below.
